OUT AND ABOUT.
Hire cars:
Car hire on the island is expensive
compared to most holiday resorts and
the UK. With most hire companies you
find that you need to be 25 or over to
hire a car, in some cases they will
accept over 21. You need to make sure
you have your English Driving License
and valid passport for the lease
agreement, all these documents need to
be with you at all times when driving
around the Island.
On the buses:
There is a regular bus service on the
island which run between the main four
towns Costa Teguise , Arrecife, Puerto
del Carmen and Playa Blanca all buses
run on the half hour except on public
holidays ask your reception in the
hotel or check bus stop time tables.
Taxi ride:
Taxis are fairly easy to come by, you
can flag a taxi down on the roadside,
it will only stop if it is showing a
green light on the top of a car
showing it is vacant. If you are
staying in a resort your reception can
telephone for a taxi for you. Please
note that on Thursdays which is the
Islands busiest, it is wise to order
your taxi the day before, especially
if returning to the airport.
Cycling: An alternative way to see the
Island is to hire a mountain bike.
There are a few companies along the
main Avenida where you can lease bikes
and obtain maps to plan your trip.
AT THE BEACH
On your stay In Lanzarote you will
never be far from a beach there are at
least 89 covering the island. The
beach in Famara is well known for
attracting many surfers due to its
fantastic waves. Papagayo has a
beautiful white sandy beach, this is a
place for naturists as well as
families. For something different
theres the black sand of El Golfo or
for something normal Playa Blanca or
Los Pocillos which are the main
beaches along the Avenida in Puerto
Del Carmen.
DUTY FREE
Your duty free allowance is as
follows:
200 cigarettes or 250grm tobacco or 50
cigars.
1litre of spirits over 22% proof or 2
liters of sparkling or fortified wine
plus 2 liters of still wine.
60cc of perfume, or 250cc of Eau de
Toilette.
Gifts to the value of 132.00 per
person but not more than 50 liters of
beer or lighters.
EMERGENCIES
If you are staying on resort and need
help in an emergency you can ask you
reception, who will call for
assistance. In any other case you will
need to find an English clinic a well
known one is Clinca Lanzarote. If for
an reason you need medical assistance,
all doctors will ask for Your Holiday
Insurance and or E111 form which can
obtain from your local POST OFFICE.
Ambulances: If you need an Ambulance
in an emergency and are not on a
resort where you can ask reception,
you can contact CRUZ ROJA (red cross)
on 112. You will be taken to Arrecife
General Hospital.
Toothache: All dentist are private
clinics and are not cover by the
Spanish Social Security System. Please
be aware you will be charge for your
visit.
Chemists: There are plenty of chemists
on the island and are indicated by a
green cross. Most items you can buy
over the counter in some instances you
may have to consult a doctor for a
prescription. The open times are 9-1
and 5-10 Mondays to Saturdays. Sundays
there is only one open each pharmacy
will advise on which one it is.
